DzMD-TS4-Oughties Big Rapids Living Stuff

Are you turned off by Discover University being so cute, plush, and generic? Do you want to challenge your Sims to live in a real college town, or at least be inside buildings based on ones from a real college town? Do you wish to have them flaunt school spirit for an actual school?

Would you love a pack that lets you do all this, while incorporating history lessons about life in a real town in a real time period?

Don't think the Discover University expansion tortures them enough? Then Oughties Big Rapids Living Stuff may just be the pack for you! This pack pursues brutal realism wherever it can, even if your Sim doesn't like it!

Setting

Locations

This pack takes your Sim back in time - and place - to the late 2000s in Big Rapids, Michigan. It recaptures some of the locations that helped make Dozerfleet what it is, as well as a few other locations that were at least somewhat possible to re-create. Along with this, your Sims can now decorate with Ferris State paraphernalia, or dress with school spirit.

Locations of interest include North Bond Hall, Hillcrest Oakwood Apartments Building H, Carmike Big Rapids Cinema, Szot's Bar and Grill, Mancino's, Biggby, and more. Included in the handbook are instructions on how to live the time and place, dress the time and place, and understand the time and place, as written by Ferris alumni who were there.

Meet the Locals!

Sims included in this pack relate to a Sims 4 webcomic remake of the Bulldog Television miniseries Blood Over Water from 2009, and one from a video game concept dubbed Sorbet, set in the fall of 2008. Still others not included, but still associated with the pack, include characters from the canceled 2008 film Volkonir, which the current series pitch is derived from.

As of the second edition of this pack, more Sims based on real life residents have been included! These include the Evancri family (inspired by a real-life former Mancino's store manager) and Merre Bowmaster - a woman whose life was cut far too short in real life. But as a Sim, you can perhaps give her the good life she was denied.

Actual Sims associated with the pack are now (partially) included with the download. The Evancris are fictionalized versions of the Christianson family, John and Marianne. Marianne Evans-Christianson was a manager at the Big Rapids Mancino's Pizza and Grinders for the late 2000s, and retired in 2020. She was the main store manager in January of 2010, when a Dozerfleet crew pertaining to the Ferris class of TVPR 499 filmed an ad for Mancino's. Marianne was a pleasure to work with. And now, you can play as her, and find out for yourself what it takes to run a place like Mancino's.

About Merre

Merre Bowmaster, whom the founder of Dozerfleet dated in 2009, has also been added to the pack. She died in July of 2020 from Huntington's disease. Therefore, this second edition is called the Merre Edition, in honor of her memory. Can you give her a better life?

Improved lot accuracy!

Real estate is now 25% more accurate to real life. Take in the feel of authentic-looking Big Rapids architecture!

Version 2.1 update for November of 2021: The Sherpa Patch!

Look out, fans of Matt and Steve Kamrowski's 2007 short film The Sherpa Sheriff! Sherp is now available as a patch add-in for this custom pack! Same rules as for the other Sims in order to install. (Note: Squatch, scimitar, and walrus mustache not actually included.)

Sherp isn't the only new addition to this set either. A more Blood Over Water period-accurate version of the 300 poster in 201-H of Hillcrest Apartments is available in here as well! To get it, simply overwrite the default 300 poster CC item from The Merre Edition with this new file, which contains a second swatch. The more period-accurate poster from the miniseries prominently displays Leonidas' quote of "Tonight, we dine in Hell!" - the same as it did in the pilot episode of Blood Over Water, when Aaron visits Mark's apartment to investigate Mark's disappearance. (In real life, actor Chris Wilson was renting the apartment at that time. It was Chris' 300 movie poster.)

To top it off, the folder icons are back! Only, unlike the previous set, which is a hybrid Dozerfleet and Windows 10 design scheme, these new folders are designed to blend in better with 2021 operating systems. There's a set dedicated to Windows 11, and another to macOS Mojave - in their native ICO or ICNS formats!

Version 2.2 update November 25th, 2021: The Relisted Patch

Just in time for Thanksgiving of 2021, players now have an off-Gallery option for the first time; to download a no-CC version of the Unlisted band members (plus Jackie). Congratulations are extended to Jackie, for winning the title of Mrs. America 2022! Requirements haven't changed, and this household set still has the same requirements today as it did for The Merre Edition in the summer of 2020.

Installation

Please check the handbook (linked below) for specific instructions. Items on a PC/Mac/Linux desktop or laptop need to be moved directly into the appropriate game folder. Bonuses and Recommendations

The following are not required, nor officially part of the pack. But they'd allow you to get the most out of using it:

  • Zombie Apocalypse Mod by Sacrificial
Note: Very good for Sorbet gameplay, as it creates something for Hadley to do battle against.
  • Armageddon Mod by Sacrificial
Note: Allows for Marlquaanites (Gerosha Legends), Apthalans (Cherinob Saga), and Gwirmalesh's monsters (Volkonir) to appear in Big Rapids. Some assembly required.
  • Extreme Violence Mod by Sacrifical
Note: Give Hadley more zombie-battling options in a Sorbet playout.
  • Ravasheen's Bunk and Loft Bed Set at The Sims Resource

Required CC for The Sherpa Patch

Sherp himself uses the following items:

Music by Unlisted

To get the full soundtrack of She is Nectar, purchase and download from Google Play.

Note: If Google encourages you to also check out an album from 2015 dubbed Playin' to Win, bear in mind that album is from a completely different band that is similarly named. McNeil, Hicks, and Blankenship have no relation to that album whatsoever.

Recommended other music

  • Identity (2004) by Broken Sunday
  • "Broken" - the version from Who We Are (2005) by Lifehouse. This was Merre's song.
